JANUARY 2012
COMMISSIONNING FROMVEUR II
The
new ship for the daily service of Ouessant and Molène islands entered
service at the beginning of december 2011. She replaces the ENEZ EUSSA
III.
We provided naval architecture and general drawings for this nice reference, outsourcing Chantiers Piriou
: general arrangement; lines drawing; speed prediction; seakeeping
performance; noise and vibration; structural drawings; weight report
follow-up; stability booklet; interior and exterior design; ...etc.
It's a beautiful
adventure that ends for us : 2 years of work on an innovative and
flagship project, designed for one of the most rough seas in
Europe. An exemplary project for the collaboration between our team and
those of
Chantiers Piriou, supported by the valuable contributions of Conseil
Général du Finistère (owner) and Penn Ar Bed
(operator), with the talent of our forever-designer Joël
Brétécher, wich has resulted in an elegant ship, as fast and as
powerful as its predecessor, with better comfort, powered by robust
medium-speed engines in place of high-speed engines, and with a doubled
deadweight. Another adventure begins now : operation along the
year, wishing it pleasant and safe for Ouessant and Molène inhabitants,
as well as for those who enjoy visiting these islands.
Thanks to Chantiers Piriou for their confidence and congratulations for this great achievement !

BUILDING OF A NEW FLOATING GATE FOR LA CIOTAT SHIPYARDS
The large drydock of La
Ciotat will receive this summer its new floating gate. A 60m lenght
by 10m tall assembly, made of high-strength steel, currently
under contruction at CM Paimboeuf
in Collombelle (France). Following the success of BP4 for Brest
arsenal, it is again with CM Paimboeuf we won this great
contract for SEMIDEP Ciotat.
We will install on this ship an innovative wedge sealing without
martyrdom (limiting efforts, designed to last 30 years, shock resistant and
supressing leaks).
A THIRD AUSTRAL LINER FOR COMPAGNIE DU PONANT
Compagnie du Ponant
announced the building of a sister ship for AUSTRAL and BOREAL,
their two luxury liners designed for Southern cruising. 142m
length with a 135 cabins capacity, the ship will be built
by Fincantieri (Italy), like her sisters.
Ship Studio is proud of
these magnificent vessels wohse complete draft project (general
arrangement, main equipment characteristics, tender specification,
...etc) was designed by our team almost three years ago, ... and always
with our favourite designer Joël Brétécher.

OPTIPROPULSEUR PROJECT STILL GOING ON
The final results of numerical calculations carried out by DGA Techniques Hydrodynamiques
are promising : lower power, and therefore lower fuel consumption, of
21% for the replacement of the propeller nozzle for a 24m trawler, with
optimized rudder and gear ratio. Honourable results are attended also
for simpler modifications : 12% for a stator combined with
optimized rudder. Gains to be confirmed in 2012 by sea trials.
OPTIPROPULSEUR is a
research program co-funded by french marine fisheries and aquaculture
direction (Direction des Pêches Maritimes et de
l'Aquaculture) and European Fisheries Fund (FEP). It brings together 8
partners : Masson Marine, Masson Marine Engineering, DGA
Techniques Hydrodynamiques, GTN, MPI, AGLIA, CRPMEM de Bretagne and Ship Studio as the leader.
A FLOATING PLAFORM FOR THE AUSTRAL OCEAN
Jean-Louis Etienne, the famous french explorator, asked us to design
the ship for its new adventure : the Polar Pod, a manned floating
platform to operate in the circumpolar current. A very innovative
project, designed for 20 m Hs waves.
